New Owners if you

Adopting a Mighty Mutt

We realize that it is hard to decide if the dog or cat which you have fallen in love with on the internet is right for you. Therefore, you can meet the animals featured on this website every weekend at the corner of 14th Street and University place in Union Square in Manhattan.

Did you know that you can Sponsor a Mighty Mutt?

We will be glad to arrange a meeting if you think that you have indeed found your special companion in this space. Simply contact us and we will be sure to bring the animal along with us to Union Square on a Friday or Saturday of your choice.

Remember, whenever you adopt a pet from Mighty Mutts, you are making room for another stray to come in off the cruel streets.

Note: All potential owners must undergo a thorough screening and adhere to adoption policy.

All Animals Are

  • Thoroughly examined by a veterinarian
  • Tested and treated for diseases, internal and external parasites
  • Vaccinated against rabies, lyme disease, parvo virus, distemper (dogs), Vaccinated against distemper and spayed or neutered.
  • All cats are quarantined and tested twice for feline HIV and leukemia over a 6 month period before they are allowed to mingle.

Adoption Policy

All to often, people decide to adopt a dog or cat on impulse, not realizing that their split-second decision is one their pet will have to live with for the rest of its life.

All potential owners must be fully aware of the responsibilities involved in having a pet, such as daily exercise, visits to the veterinarian, and finding reliable care when they must be away. Most importantly, they must understand that adopting a pet is not like buying a sweater: a pet cannot be returned just because it seemed cuter in the store.

Screening Process

  • All potential owners must fill out a pre-screening application.
  • All potential owners must consider their decision for a 24-hour period.
  • If a pre-screening application looks promising, a volunteer will conduct a telephone interview.
  • Depending on the results of the telephone interview, an in-home interview will then be conducted.
  • If they application is approved, Mighty Mutts requests a $150 domation to cover part of the cost of caring for the animal.
  • Agree to return the animal to Mighty Mutts at any time, for any reason, if you are no longer able or willing to care for him or her.
Come to Union Square Every Saturday and Fill Out an Application!
From Our Founder

If you want the most loyal and best friend you'll ever have in your life, who will stand by you through thick and thin and ask nothing in return, then adopt a pet.

If you want someone who will overlook your faults, who will always be willing to forgive you no matter what you do, and who will always be there for you with unconditional love, then adopt a pet.

If you are absolutely sure that you are ready to make the same commitment to an animal that he so unhesitantly makes to you, then adopt a pet.

But when you see that pet who looks really cute, and you just can't wait to take him home, think first how much he may have already suffered in his short lifetime. Make sure you adopt a pet for the right reasons.
